Event report

By Creators’ Lounge staff Yuka

Coming up from the subway station at Dundas, what lies infront of you is the big Hard Rock Cafe neon sign. On the night of Friday, February 13, KC Roberts & The Live Revolution was performing on the second floor of that building.

The space was amazing with the stage beautifully set with wine-red drapes while the walls were glass that over looked the streets. High rise buildings, streets lights and large screens transformed the whole intersection of Dundas Station into a secondary illumination space.

While people finishing work and those who came just to enjoy a nice cold beer began to enter the space, the first performance began at 10pm lead by Texan King, a band from London. Their sensational perfomance brought about everyones attention.

The time was now 11pm. By this time the bar counter was overwhelmed with customers. A group from Montreal, Busty And The Bass were performing for their first time in Toronto. The space lightened with applause, along with the Busty call that got their fans and customers on their feet enjoying their tunes.
The time flew by and it was midnight. Time to welcome out KC Roberts & The Live Revolution.

Not only was their performance a piece of perfection; as if listening to a CD track, all 8 members where in groove with their fans dancing and performing all at the same time.

Most of their songs had some solo parts to it which brought each soloist to the front spot light. Whether it may have been a fast keyboard solo, drum or string solo, each performance was a highlight for all.

KC Roberts truly knows how to entertain their fans, as they kept the dance floor moving enough that it could have sunk right down to the first floor. Once again, their never-ending energy and soul left their fans and guests with a night of a truly unforgettable performance.

NOW Magazine listed KCLR as one of Toronto’s 10 Local Buzz Bands Set to Break Big. And on October 15th, 2013 KCLR released their fourth record, one that lives up to the buzz generated by their live performances.

Parkdale Funk 2: SIDES (PDF2) is a double LP featuring 27 tracks, 40 guest musicians and over 2 hours of music. Although it’s a funk record on the surface, PDF2’s track list highlights KCLR’s strong jazz, rock and urban influences. The album is a culmination of nearly 2 years of work that was made possible by a crowdfunding initiative to which KCLR’s fans contributed $26,000. PDF2 sessions began in 2012, and included contributions by Toronto hip hop masters D-Sisive, The Airplane Boys and DJ Grouch, as well as a live strings section and big band.

“If one needed proof of the vitality and authenticity of new Canadian funk music, they need look no further…” – Matt Bauer – Exclaim!

“…dancers at the front of the full room boogied at full tilt throughout the night” – Julia Laconte – Now Magazine

“Sharp technical skills and a unique blend of hip hop, electronic, pop and funk created infectious dance tunes that instantly turned hundreds of concertgoers into diehard fans.” – Canadian Music Fest

Busty & The Bass (Montreal)
http://bustyandthebass.com/

Busty and the Bass is a nine-piece collective of musicians from across North America who met during their first week studying music at McGill University. Originally born out of small Montreal house parties, over the last three years ‘Busty’ has evolved into a tight electro-funk band and become one of Canada’s most vibrant and exciting new bands.

In October 2014, Busty and the Bass competed against hundreds of other bands to win the “Rock Your Campus” competition, the search for Canada’s top university band, sponsored by CBC Music and TD Bank. The group won a $10,000 cash prize, and opened for the Arkells in a sold-out performance in Montreal.

Busty is renowned for their energetic live performances that showcase their musicality, creativity, and camaraderie. Busty performs regularly across Quebec, Ontario, and the North-Eastern United States, and their brand of powerful original music and innovative covers has won them international praise.

Texas King (London)
