【 Music Festival Report 】Electric Island 2016: ELECTRIC ISLAND LABOUR DAY WEEKEND / Day1
By Creators’ Lounge staff Yoshimi（Torocal Girls / トロカル女子）
Sunday, Sept. 4th.
September brought autumn.
Students are going back to school starting this month, it means summer is gone.
This was the last long weekend this summer.
It was especially getting cooler in the morning and night time these days, though it was still hot during the day.
The summer is short but the duration of sunshine is longer in Toronto, so people really enjoy it.
They are very good at managing the time, keeping their mind under control and enjoying the summer time.
I personally like Toronto Island so much.
There is a calm atmosphere, like a parallel world.
It’s a nice difference, people can go there easily by a ferry from Toronto which is the biggest city in Canada.
The music festival held there must be fantastic.
There was the wonderland for adults beyond the gate.
It added the spice of music to Toronto Island.
People can’t drink alcohol while smoking cigarettes in Toronto, even though it’s natural in Japan.
However it was possible here as long as IDs were checked at the gate and children admission was prohibited.
It was an outdoor festival for adults, a little different from a general event.
The casting of artists were great, every artist performed us cool music which matched that festival.
The stability of the artists would be the reason why many people come to the event every time.
I saw the big wave of the audience.
Everybody gave out a happy energy.
That wonderland was created by the chain reaction of this energy.
The space was filled up with a lot of smiles, the people enjoyed the time with the music and alcohol.
Days are getting shorter little by little, the end of summer is coming closer.
The sunset made us sentimental but we were fine, we were at Electric Island.
The mood of the audience got hot even without the sunshine.
The light in the dark was so beautiful, the party has just started.
The artists boosted the audience with their music.
The adults were fully enjoying the day.
The cold and long winter is coming soon, so what?
It’s the saddest thing is not to be able to enjoy the time now.
Everyone already knows that.

This past long weekend’s festivities have many of us still buzzing with excitement. The Civic Holiday saw one of the most magical Electric Islands to date, as 6,000 people made their way from the mainland to gather with friends and dance below the summer’s sun and vibrant, night sky. From the moment the gates opened until the very final note, the music rang out flawlessly! Toronto local and No.19 Co-founder Nitin kicked things off, setting the tone for German duo andhim. Despite being down one member, andhim commanded the stage with ease. Missing in action was Guy Gerber, but to the satisfaction of many, Toronto’s famed Kenny Glasgow of Art Department stepped in, throwing down an incredibly cool and funky house set. Gui Boratto made an impressive Electric Island debut, opening up the stage for German live-act sensation Paul Kalkbrenner, who effortlessly stole the show with his upbeat and interactive act. Yes, Monday August 1st was a memorable one!
Now, we look forward to the final Electric Island weekend of summer 2016! On Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5, for the very first time Electric Island will open its doors for a two day, back to back special. Packed with double the DJs, the Labour Day weekend will be a finale like you’ve never seen before!
As always, both days will feature a range of sounds. Day 1 will hear lighter, bumping and sinfully, groovy techno with acts like Get Real: Claude VonStroke b2b Green Velvet to the heavier, dark baselines of techno maverick Nicole Moudaber. Dirtybird staple Justin Martin will dish out his signature twist of Hip-Hop inspired G-house, while Irishmen Bicep lay down some deep, progressive chords and entrancing vocals. As the sun sets upon Day 1, there’s no time for slowing down! Day 2 is stacked with some of the biggest names on the global dance music stage.
Fatima Yamaha will make his Electric Island debut, wowing crowds with his blend of electronic pop. The big room, deep progressive sounds of artists like Guy J and live act Âme will be definite crowd pleasers. Changing the mood up will be a sought-after name among the techno community, the one and only Loco Dice. Not to mention, Innervisions’ boss Dixon will be there to take crowds on an unforgettable journey! We couldn’t think of a better way to bid Summer 2016 good-bye than a two day get-a-way on the lush, green island, surrounded by friends and astounding music.

Though Electric Island wasn’t held in Toronto Island this time, it never affected people’s enthusiasm! Everyone enjoyed music, dancing, drinking and whatever!
